The project “Köln hoch 3 – Kultur weiterbilden, bilanzieren, transformieren” (develop, assess and transform culture) started in September 2023. Nineteen people from various cultural institutions in Cologne, from large to small and from the municipal and independent scene, were trained as transformation managers for sustainable culture and nine climate assessments were drawn up. With this project, Cologne’s cultural sector aims to make an important contribution to the goal of “Climate-neutral Cologne 2035”.
The aim of the training course to become a Transformation Manager for Sustainable Culture is to impart practical knowledge on how cultural venues and media productions can move towards greater sustainability. In addition to imparting knowledge, the course also serves to network stakeholders with each other. Graduates are thus enabled to use their knowledge as transformation managers and sustainability ambassadors to initiate, implement and support processes and projects in institutions that serve as role models for the industry and beyond for a climate-friendly society.
Collecting and understanding core indicators and emissions source data for a carbon footprint are important first steps towards a strategic approach to the grand challenge of sustainability. The urgently needed reduction efforts will only be successful to the extent that we begin to understand where the biggest sources of emissions are, but also where the opportunities for implementing reduction measures lie.
